I don’t know if all y’all are familiar with 21 Day Fix – it’s a BeachBody programme that centres around controlled nutrition: instead of counting calories, it effectively apportions you a fixed set of macronutrients for each day. I find it great to come back to every once in a while, as we all have a tendency to let our wheels slip a little & our otherwise laser-sharp focus on good nutrition drift; and it’s always a slippery slope from “I’ll just have this one extra rice cake – what can it hurt?” to “I’ll just have half of this candy bar now… and the other half when I walk back into the room. What can it hurt?”.
So, I’m currently just finishing on my second week of 21 Day Fix and so far, it’s going great. One of the biggest things that’s helped, though, is figuring out how to get the things I want without screwing up my macros – and that can be pretty tough when you only have 2 yellow containers a day (for the uninitiated: the yellow containers represent total number of carbs you can have in a day – 2 is equivalent to about 125g of rice, so… not a lot).
What I came up with is this neat & super-easy banana bread recipe. The whole loaf is just 1.5 purple containers, 2 yellow containers and half a red container, and so two slices with your tea is a fraction of that. This banana bread is the very definition of having your cake and eating it too.
…and you’re done! This banana bread will easily last up to 3-4 days, and as a couple of slices only represents 1⁄3 of a purple container, 1⁄2 a yellow container and 1⁄8 of a red container, you can enjoy a filling snack with your tea any day of the week.
